What next?

I have opened this development blog to keep you updated about changes/downtimes and new ideas to improve the GTS.

The Trade Station has now been running for at least two months now (I’m not so sure myself how long it’s actually been). I have to admit, I’m pretty busy with university too and beside breeding new Pokemon I’m wondering whether it’s worth it spending more time on further developing Make a Wish GTS. The first question that arises is: what can be done using the GTS trick?

I am currently proposing a storage system. Please leave a vote (and/or comment) on the poll on the right what you think about it!

It IS possible to upload Pokemon to the GTS, however it is currently not implemented. If you so wish, we can provide a storage for you (don’t worry the server has backups). Giving you the possibility to teach them TMs that you don’t have a spare of or resetting their EVs, leveling, cloning etc can be considered too (and yet again because people are sensitive about it, data will be automatically changed but of course even if the feature’s there, you don’t have to use them if you don’t want).

If more is known about the DPPtHgSs  to B/W transfer (and the B/W GTS) we could let people who don’t have access to a second DS transfer Pokemon from their old games to Black White.

There’s a lot of stuff that can be implemented as soon as the GTS upload function/storage is there so I’m mostly interested if you’d like something like that.

Also, if you have other ideas, be sure to let us know too!

I don’t know if I’d be interested in the storage feature in and of itself, but the modifications to them sound pretty cool for someone who doesn’t have an Action Replay. Same goes for the transfer to Black/White ability — that sounds pretty fantastic as someone who doesn’t have a second DS!

I’m having a lot of fun with the site and appreciate all the work you put into it, especially with the ability to get event pokemon or pokemon from other countries (I’m figuring you’ll upload a shiny Ditto at some point and will be thrilled). I’ve donated a couple of times but don’t feel like that’s been enough to really let you know how much I enjoy it or make a difference.

Resetting EVs (or even a way to easily see them), teaching TM moves and leveling/cloning all sound quite awesome, and I’m pretty sure I’d make use of some of those features considering how bad I am at the battle tower stuff and how scarce some TMs are! Already the ones attached to some of the shiny pokemon have been an enormous help.

    So thank you again!

My suggestion is to start distributing 100% legit Pokemon, and not edited Pokemon. I feel that-and I am sure many would echo my sentiments-that the power to trade the shiny Pokemon received from this system on the legitimate trades section of various Pokemon forums would be a great ability.

Edited/Hacked Pokemon have no apparent trade value on most prestigious forums out there, and honestly, I think this service could generate much more traffic if the Pokemon are legit.

Funnily I’ve experienced it just the other way round. I know how to RNG breed shinies (although there are people who oppose this too…) and have traded a lot of Pokemon myself but from the people I met, many don’t care whether Pokemon are cloned, and don’t care so much if they are edited (and look legit) or completely legit.
Now that I’ve gotten mails to clarify their legality, I am aware there are people who care. But ever since I put the note up, download numbers haven’t changed (or at least not to the extend that I can notice).

I will finish the evolution lines, since Black and White are coming out, new possibilities will open up (like Dream World abilities etc). When we have B/W GTS support, I’d like to offer legit Pokemon for the new games. However I’ll be needing help since it takes loads of time, even if you know how to do it. So if I can find some people who would like to contribute, that’s definitely an option.

How 99% of the Pokemon community sees it, RNGing and Cloning (from a legit source, of course) are not hacking, since the entirety of the Pokemon data is still legitimately created in-game.

Your point on how people “don’t care so much if they are edited (and look legit) or completely legit.” is valid, but then again you passed the altered Pokemon off as legit before, causing the “ruckus”. People may not care if they are getting hacks, but other people they trade with might, and I feel that it is important to display the exact nature of the Pokemon that people are getting so that there is a proper distinction between hacked and legit Pokemon if the person were to trade on other forums. I am happy, however, to see that the Pokemon are not being declared as “100% legit” as before, and that you are stating how the Pokemon were formed somewhat accurately.

In conclusion on this point, I do feel that while edited/legal/hacked Pokemon may be able to have some trade value, legit Pokemon may open up a much wider window for trading, and such, I propose that the Make-A-Wish GTS only distribute legit Pokemon.

That aside, I would like to express my view on your storage idea. It is my honest opinion that a storage system is not suitable for this system, since managing the system could prove to be rather messy, and with possible glitches, real-time support could be hard to deal with. Tying this in with my previous point, I believe that spending more time on making legit Pokemon would be a better option than spending time on creating a storage system. Of course my point is, after all, kind of biased, so feel free to judge this point as you will.

On a quick note, the research team on B/W GTS Support has run into trouble with spoofing the DS Signals on B/W, so it may take a very, very long time, or never at all for a B/W GTS to be created.

If I have time to spare (which is rare for the next two months due to university exams) I’ll take a look into re-engineering the B/W GTS as well. I couldn’t find much about the encryption of it in the current GTS discussion so I’d like to see at least whether it’s possible.

I dont want to say anything bad but B/W do NOT have GTS and you CANT ling gen.4 games with B/W

I believe that is wrong. I still have to play through White myself but see http://www.serebii.net/blackwhite/wifi.shtml the Global Terminal and for transferring Pokemon from the old games see http://www.serebii.net/blackwhite/pokeshifter.shtml

Correct, the GTS is now in the PokeCenter, and Pokemon can be transferred from 4th Gen games to 5th Gen games via the PokeShifter.

The PokeShifter works in a way that only 4th Gen JPN games can PokeShift to 5th Gen JPN games, and only 4th Gen ENG games can PokeShift to 5th Gen ENG games and so on. I don’t know how you’re going to do a DPPtHGSS transfer to B/W using this service, but I wouldn’t suggest using any automated tools for it, since automated tools are unable to accurately set the Trash Bytes during PokeShifting. So yes, this process would be manual, tedious, and time-consuming.

the PokeShifter is ONE WAY transfer (like Pal Park)
and I asked my friend who have Black (well CycloDS evolution flashcard and Black rom) and he said that GTS is the same but on DIFFERENT server so Gen.4 and Gen.5 cant trade (but MAYBE private GTS can accept both games)

Yes, I did mean reproducing the one way transfer from old games -> B/W for people who don’t have access to a second DS. It’s probably hard to do it exactly like the game does but we’ll see.

And also yes, it will be possible to have one GTS that will accept both DPPtHgSs and BW (given that it’s possible to do a GTS for BW at all).

I’m for the BW part, since I currently have to request people to help me shift some of the shinies into my BW, and it’s actually not that easy to find.

I won’t comment on the part about legitness though. I don’t mind if non-legit pokes don’t have any trading value, since I won’t trade them out unless the person said s/he doesn’t care anyway. It’s fine as long as it doesn’t break my game…-_-”

However, I doubt legit(-looking) DW shiny is possible though, since pokemon with DW ability can’t shine because the PID of the third ability disable its ability to shine, as far as I’ve heard. No matter how legit you’re going to make the poke looks like, it will never come out as legit if it’s both shiny and have DW ability. Though, I never tested it out myself. The legit shiny Lapras I got from doing DW breeding doesn’t keep its DW ability as well, though I’m not 100% certain that it’s just because it’s shining or it’s because my luck is just rotten that my poke doesn’t keep its DW ability. -.-”

One question, so you’re going to distribute shiny legendaries as clones on your GTS as well? SInce I was surprised to see a shiny Shaymin up in it…What other legendaries do you have in line? >_>”

Don’t know about the thing shiny and DW ability is impossible… if it is true we won’t offer those.

      Yes, I will upload all legendaries eventually. They’ll just pop up randomly ^^;

I’d also like to give you a big thanks for the make a wish gts and I understand that edited pokemon are an issue for some people but I feel I would like to voice out my own opinion, which is that I like the current system and I hope you don’t start taking it away because people are complaining about “cloned or hacked” pokemon. I pretty much don’t care about trade value because I am not interested in trading my pokemon away. I enjoy training my pokemon and watching them evolve and all that stuff and the fact that they are shiny makes it about 50% cooler, so that’s my main purpose in downloading the shinies from the gts. And I was ecstatic when you put up the nickname feature because that really made it even better. I completely agree that I don’t at all care that the pokemon are cloned or whatever as long as they don’t mess up my game.

I do have a suggestion though, I was wondering if it would be possible to offer two of each pokemon, one girl and one boy if the pokemon is gendered… I had really wanted a shiny swablu girl, but it had been a boy so I had to live with it. But if we could pick the gender of the shinies, that would be incredible. thank you again for the make a wish gts it is awesome!

also, in regards to the storage thing, if it makes cloning possible I would really be into that because the current cloning method is really difficult and I haven’t been able to master it at all, but if the storage thing makes it easier to do, I would really like to be able to do that

i appreciate this sight so much, i love getting on in the morning and seeing what the new pokemon is each day.

i was wondering if it would ever be possible to change the OT of the pokemon. i know haveing it say “wish” is good because then people know where it came from, but personal use for pokemon on my team it would be nice if i could change the OT.

other then that the sight is excellent! ^^ thank you for what you do!

      • eefi
      • February 2nd, 2011

Do you mean changing the OT name or the ID?
Changing the ID is problematic since it would mean the Pokemon won’t be shiny any more.

    • February 2nd, 2011

Right, so I’m wondering if it is going to be possible to get better natures on the Pokemon. As far as I can see, most of the competitive Pokemon have awful Docile Natures, which do not help out with battling at all.

Also, there should be a function to start changing the gender too, or else many pokemon will be useless for breeding.

      • eefi
      • February 2nd, 2011

If there’s going to be a storage system or a feature to chose any nature for a Pokemon I’d like to have people sign up and log in for all these features (so Wifi IDs are associated to a person who then can have multiple games/IDs) because it is getting really messy otherwise.

The gender is tied to the PID so right now that’s not possible. But when the above is being implemented I’ll make sure to put that in too.

One curious question. I missed…quite a lot of your shinies, thanks to my obsession of BW…will the past shinies that were already gone be redistributed again, maybe after you got all the shinies up? .-.

      Yes, very probably. :)

  1. I think it will be nice if there was dream world pokemons as events too or something like that.

  1. No trackbacks yet.
